Huge sterling salad servers in mid century modern design. This is Mexican hand made sterling silver at it's very best. Salad sets were very popular 1930's to 1950's. The fork and spoon are big and heavy, 10 inches long by 2.5 inches wide. Simply marked "Sterling 925", this was made long before the Mexican Eagle marking system came into being. Extremely hefty at 8.8 oz. or 248 grams on my postal scale. The design takes it's cues from modern Danish designs, looking much like Georg Jensen. The hand forged flower tops surely resemble Jensen products. This set is in good vintage condition. Shows usage but no issues at all. You can see evidence that these are completely bench made, hand hammered. Definitely made by a master craftsman like Hector Aguilar or Los Castillos. Many of the best Mexican workshops featured flatware serving pieces. If you collect vintage Mexican sterling silver, or if you need a wonderful wedding gift, these are worthy of attention. Very substantial and large set in clean modernist design.
