Whiting & Davis fine mesh purse in the Dresden type mesh, made late 1920's. This strongly art deco designed purse is unusual in that it is black and gray on silver mesh. The tonality is different, as most Dresden mesh purses are pastel or bright flower colors. They usually look like impressionist paintings, and this one is art deco. The silver plated frame has a bold art deco design. The chain is the woven snake mesh, original to Whiting and Davis. The gauge of the steel mesh is the very finest, soft to the touch. The condition of the purse is excellent. The silk lining is shot. I am leaving it in there so you can see what color it is, in case you want to replace it. Frankly, the fine mesh bags display better without their old linings. They hang better. This purse has it's original mirror. All links are attached right up to the hinges, as it should be. Hinges and clasp are in perfect working order. I am not polishing the frame, as it has the old tarnish resistant coating which was typical of some W & D frames. Size is 7.25 inches long from clasp to fringe. Frame size is 4 inches. The bottom skirt shape is really beautiful on this bag, accentuating the strong deco lines. A great mesh purse in great condition, with an unusual color scheme.
