Jade glass bird figurine made by Imperial Glass, Bellaire, Ohio. This blue jay figure was part of the line called Cathay, designed by artist Virginia B. Evans , starting in 1949. This beautiful dark green jade, opaque glass was introduced in 1960. The Imperial catalog refers to this figure as "scolding bird", I think it looks like a blue jay. Height 5 inches, length 6.75 inches. This figure is solid, and can be considered a paperweight. The bottom is polished to sit perfectly flat. Condition is perfect. Whether you collect Imperial glass or glass animal or bird figures, this is a beauty in a scarce color.
