Antique hatpin , carnival glass iridescent, with Dragonflies pattern. This is a large glass hatpin, 1 and 5/8 inches. Three dragonflies around a central dot. This example is black glass with a purple and blue iridescence. I am listing several carnival glass hatpins from a collection. Some are duplicates in pattern, but have slight differences in color and iridescence. This one is mostly purple, but when you turn it in the light, you can also see teal blue. Iridescence is pretty strong and colorful. Condition: you will see little flea bites around the ground edge. This is the way these were made, as it is iridized over. They were made inexpensively, so the flakes were not polished out before spraying with the metallic oxides, to give the carnival glass sheen. I would still call this one good condition. Steel pin 6.25 inches long. Dates to carnival glass era c. 1915 to 1920. Origin may be Bohemian. Whether you are a collector of carnival glass or antique hatpins, this is a nice example for your collection.
