Antique sterling silver Chinese brush. This form is usually used to clean clothing, particularly coats. The form dates to late 1800's, early 1900's. This piece of Chinese export silver is made by a silversmith, not manufactured. The workmanship is superb. Hammered, stippled background,, which is characteristic of c. 1900 Chinese silver items. There is a bird in a flowering fruit tree. The technique is repousse". There is a central cartouche, which fortunately has no monogram. Hallmarks are 85 and two separate Chinese characters. I can't read Chinese, and one of the touch marks is obscured. This may have been part of a large dressing set. Length is 7.25 inches. Bristles are natural, and in good, gently used condition. Bristles are set in wood. The silver is in good condition. A little normal wear from use, but no dents, no issues at all. A beautiful piece of antique Asian silver for your collection.
