Antique sugar sifter spoon with very fancy enamel handle. This unusual pierced serving spoon features enamel decoration on the top. The bowl of the spoon is made up of flowers encircled by garlands, with a lion's head in the center. Also a matching lion's head on the top. Marked Sterling in the back, I see no maker's mark. The finish is gilt, which is why I did not polish. I don't like to put wear on gilding that is 100 years old. Spoon's purpose could be sifting powdered sugar and cinnamon, or could be for bon bons or nuts. Whatever the purpose it is a gorgeous serving piece. Length 5.5 inches, bowl is 2.5 inch diameter. Cloisonne style enamel in turquoise, cobalt, and red. The condition is good. Only one tiny circle close to the bowl is missing some of it's enamel, and I have looked with magnifying glass. It is not a damage, but rather an "oops" in decorating. Otherwise good condition, just normal usage for a spoon of over 100 years of age. If you appreciate hand made sterling silver serving items, this is really unusual.
