Sterling silver sugar shaker with cobalt blue glass liner. This was made by Gorham Manufacturing Company, in the late 19th century, in Providence , R. I. Beautiful sugar shaker in a classic British form. The lid features stars and bars as part of the cutouts. Really pretty top, with finial. It opens to reveal a hand blown cobalt glass liner, very tightly fitting, with polished pontil. Marked on the base: Sterling, A 9037, and the 19th century Gorham hallmarks. Also inscribed numbers 1.13.69. That makes me wonder whether the A refers to their date code for 1868. Height is 5.5 inches. Nice substantial silver thickness, as we expect from Gorham. This is a nice quality sugar shaker, which can be used very day. The lid fits nice and snug. Condition is good for an antique of this age. I see only one very minute dent near the fencing. It is so slight to not show in the close up photograph. Really minor, and it won't be noticed. Other than that, good. I have not polished, as I like to see signs of age. You can polish to your liking, since it is sterling silver. This is a really classical form in sterling silver, which will look great on the breakfast table.
