Fantastic and huge is this contemporary art glass vase by Vandermark Studios. From 1980's to 90's, this massive piece was made at Vandermark studios in Flemington, New Jersey. They could not have made very many of this massive size, weighing 8 pounds, built up layer upon layer of gathers with internal decoration. The decoration consists of layers of colorful pulled loops, covering the whole vase. Also internal dichroic metallic film which gives it the rainbow effects when you turn it in the light. It gives the shimmering effect of metal flakes, but it is a different chemical process. Every color in the rainbow shimmers internally. The colors are similar to good carnival glass, but internal. The outer layers are clear glass. The graceful shape has a jack in the pulpit top. Nicely polished base, with engraved signature. Vandermark at one time was also known as Vandermark Merritt Glass Studios, founded in 1972. This studio included some of the most talented glass blowers working in the contemporary studio art glass movement. This example is huge, 23 inches high. If you collect American studio art glass, this is a wonderful piece in a decorative size. Condition perfect. Only the very best glass artists can handle this massive size and heft.
