This has got to be the most fabulous snuff/trinket box I have come across in quite a few years! It is French in origin but carries no signature of any kind. I have determined the age to be the mid 1800's. Originally I thought it was papier mache' but have since determined it is most likely some type of lacquered wood, and most likely cedar. The illustration is charming and well preserved with a normal amount of crazing (see photos). There are inlaid silver bell-flowers with very minimal loss to the inlay.
Measurements are 3 and 1/2 by approximately 2 and 1/4 inch. The depth is 3/4 inch. The hinge is tight and in great condition. There is a small amount of wear to the bottom which can be seen in the photos.
In general I will say that this marvelous snuff box is in great vintage condition. Feel free to email me if you have additional questions.
