This is an exceptional vintage 1940s era suit jacket featuring green iridescent beaded detailing on green coloured gabardine wool. The jacket has wide lapels, a scalloped collar, square padded shoulders, long sleeves and does up the front with three beaded covered buttons along a scalloped edge. The collar and pocket are trimmed with beading. It has a longer silhouette than suits of the later 1940s and 50s. The jacket is lined in a silk crepe.
Retailer’s label: Russeks Fifth Avenue. Russeks was at Thirty-sixth and Fifth in New York City from 1924 until 1959.
Manufacturer’s Label: Linada Originals.
Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a small to medium size. Please note the following measurements, taking the style of the jacket into account - due to the unusual button placement, note that this is maybe smaller than the measurements indicate:
Shoulders: 16” across seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 24” from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 17 1/2” long
Bust: 38” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 30” around
Overall length: 27 1/4”
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, stains or odours. There may be some toning of the colour in places - along the sleeve or side, but this is not pronounced at all. In addition, there is discolouration to the lining. Some fading of WWII era dyes is normal as the colourfast dyes normally imported from Germany were unavailable.
This is a great period suit jacket - striking style and colour with attractive beadwork, fabulous!
