This is a fabulous 1940s 50s era bakelite handbag purse featuring a black beaded front, back and handle. I believe that this purse may have been made by Fre-Mor, which apparently was formed in 1949 - this purse looks to me to be to have been an early model, if indeed made by Fre-Mor. The bakelite is made in a butterscotch colour with reddish brown rippling within a yellowish amber background. It closes with a two brass knobs at the top frame. The interior is lined in a black satin fabric and has a lipstick compartment and pocket built onto one side, another pocket on the opposite side, a zippered centre pocket and an independent change pouch. The purse measures 8 1/2” by 4 1/2” across its bottom and 5 1/2” in height, excluding the clasp - the handle has a drop of 7 1/2”. It is in very clean condition with no pronounced wear, staining or odour - there is only a small scuff and two other tiny light spots at one side, very minor (see last close-up photo). Fabulous bakelite handbag purse - sure to be noticed!
