This is a vintage Swakara fur coat, dating probably to the 1960s. Swakara originates from South Africa, but the pelts are stamped “Swakara Thorer Process UK Special Extra Light”. Swakara is generally used interchangeably with Astrakhan, which is of Caucasus origination or broadtail, which is more generally used. The coat is made in an upper thigh length, and does up with two metal loop and fur snap closures. It also has a loop and hook that closes the neckline - I’ve posed the coat with the neckline closed, but if you leave the top hook undone, you have an open neckline with lapels. It has wrist length sleeves, and has a pocket built into either side. It is fully lined in black fabric. The original owner’s name is embroidered onto the lining, but I think that you could have this removed if desired.
