This is a wonderful vintage cotton caftan dating to the 1970s, possibly 1960s, featuring a fabulous phoenix bird print both on the front and on the back. The rest of the caftan is printed with swirls and flowers, really lovely. The print is in tones of red, orange, light green and white against a black background. The label reads “La Lingerie” with a CA number of 00234, which is the Canadian Textile Identification number for The Hudson’s Bay Company - La Lingerie was most likely a house brand for The Bay. The content label reads “100% Cotton Made in Thailand L” - the L stands for size large. It is very loose fitting, made with no closures so is meant to simply fit over the head. There are no sleeves per se, only openings at the side of the garment that allows for the free movement of the arms.
Size: As mentioned, size large is indicated, and although this should fit a range of sizes, please note the following measurements. Laying the shoulders out straight, similar to a kimono, it measures 41” across the top from end to end. The bust area measures 39” across, or 78” around - of course, this would accommodate the arms as well as the torso and would be loose fitting. The length of the garment is 52“, measured lying flat.
Condition: It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, staining or odour - this looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.
This is a dramatic piece - wonderful phoenix bird graphic - comfy cotton, attractive colour, sure to be noticed
