This is a beautiful quality pair of unused 1960s era white kid leather gloves that were made in France. They came with a lot of gloves that I recently acquired, most unused and all dating to the 1950s and 60s. They are in like-new condition, as they are still connected with their original string, still retain the department store price tag and have been well stored. The interiors of the gloves are stamped “6 1/2 Made in France Real Kid Washable WPL 9111”. A separate label reads 100% Silk Lining”. The WPL numbers pre-dated RN textile numbers and were issued between 1941 and 1959. WPL 9111 was issued to Shalimar Vanity Gloves Inc. of New York City - they would have acted as a distributor and importer of these gloves. The gloves were sold at Morgan’s department store, a venerable Canadian chain that served a well-heeled clientele - the logo on the tag was in use from 1957 until 1964. The gloves cost $11.98, a considerable amount of money during the late 1950s.
Size: The interior is stamped as a size 6 1/2, but please rely on the following measurements. They have a length of 15” to the middle finger. They measure 3” across the palm - although there is some stretch, please be aware of this measurement, perhaps measure another pair of gloves that you may own and know that new gloves need to be worked in. The middle finger measures 3 1/4” in length.
This is a fabulous quality pair of unused vintage gloves as one would expect from French manufacture of the period - soft kid leather and silk lining!
