This is a vintage 1950s cocktail dress featuring sophisticated styling in a black silk shantung taffeta and chiffon combination. The dress has a great label, which reads “Miss KK Toronto Reg’d - A Size! Not An Age”. The content label reads “100% Pure Silk”. The dress has a wide, high-set, rounded neckline, long sleeves made of a semi-transparent black chiffon and a defined waistline. The upper back is made of chiffon and it has a V shaped cut that is outlined in silk taffeta that ties in a bow. The dress has tuck pleats down the bodice and up the upper skirt, which give the dress form. The bottom back of the skirt has a small kick pleat The back does up the back with a nylon zipper - nylon zippers began to be used during the late 50s, and were really more popular during the 60s. The dress was posed on my mannequin, but was a little large for her.
