This is a 1950s era dress made of white cotton with a black floral printed pattern. The dress is sleeveless with spaghetti straps. There is a ruffled organdy piece affixed to the neckline - I’m sure that this is original, but was probably added by the original owner because they found the neckline too décolleté. The shoulder straps and neckline have a crisscross overstitch through which is inserted black ribbon that falls down the front of the dress. The skirt is cut full, gathered in tiny pintucks under the waistline, so falls in drapes. There is a stiff muslin slip under the skirt that gives the skirt some support, but the dress was posed with a crinoline for the photos to give it a fuller look. No crinoline is supplied, but the dress can be worn without an additional crinoline. The dress does up the side with a metal zipper. There are loops for a belt, but no belt is included - matching black ribbon would probably work.
Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements for fit, taking into account the style of the dress:
Bust: 34” around, taken at the underarms
Waist: 28” around
Hips: Full, meant to fall loosely
Length: 44” long, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors - this dress looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.
This is a lovely 1950s era summer dress, crisp cotton with a very pretty print!
