This is a vintage 1950s era dressing gown/lounging robe featuring a woven Chinese/Asian design in multiple colours of red, yellow, lilac, black, light blue, medium blue and lavender against a bluish green “aqua” coloured background. The pattern consists of pagodas, Chinese flora and peasants with carts. It has padded shoulders, stitched shawl lapels and closes with a matching sash belt. The cuffs are also stitched, but can be worn turned - I’ve posed one sleeve turned and the other unturned in the photos supplied. The robe has an applied pocket at either side. It closes with an internal tie and with two “frog” closures. The robe is lined in satin fabric.
Label: Only a size label
Material: Rayon satin
Sizing: Size 34 is indicated, so it should fit a woman that fits a US size medium - please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 16” across seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 21” long with the cuff turned, 24” long with the sleeves unturned
Sleeve Inseam: 19” long
Chest: 38, taken under the arms
Waist: 33” around
Overall length: 53”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition - a very light moisture stain on the upper lining (see last close-up photo) that I haven’t tried to remove. Otherwise, very crisp and clean with no wear, tear or other defect. This dressing gown looks to have seen little use.
This is a striking dressing gown - lovely colour, elegant length, wonderful piece for lounging!
