This is a wonderful vintage raincoat made in Canada by Aquascutum of London. The raincoat is made of 55% cotton and 45% polyester in a rather striking black/deep navy polka dot pattern on off-white. It has 1980s design lines with some of the features seen on a trench coat - raglan sleeves, shoulder epaulettes, rain guard across the upper back, belt with metal D rings for cinching the waist and two button adjustable belts at the cuffs. The shoulders are padded and the skirt is pleated at the back to create a full look. It has a shirt type collar and closes at the neck, although the neckline could be worn open (see photo). It has a diagonal pocket at either side with button down flaps. It closes with five hidden plastic buttons down the front. The coat is lined in white acetate fabric.
Label: Aquascutum London Made in Canada
Sizing: No size is indicated and although this should fit a large size, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fabric and the 1980s style of coat into account:
Shoulders: 20” across approximate from one shoulder pad to the other shoulder pad (difficult to measure due to raglan sleeve cut)
Sleeves: 23” long from the epaulette
Sleeve Inseam: 16”
Bust: 46” around, misleading as a measurement because of the cut of the sleeve
Waist: 48” around, uncinched, but meant to be cinched with sash belt
Hips: 54” around, meant to hang loosely
Length: 47”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, odors or stains - it looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.
This is classic Aquascutum with an 80s fashion tweak - cute polka dot pattern, great style!
