This is an exceptional piece made in the form of a large loving cup with figural handles representing a winged male, perhaps Icarus. The piece was made by Royal Worcester in 1887, as per the date code of “Y” that appears under the Royal Worcester trademark backstamp that appears on the underside. It is made of cream coloured china porcelain and trimmed in gold paint.
It measures 9” in height and 7” in diameter at its base - it weighs 2 lbs and 12 oz.
It has been very well preserved over the last 130 years - no chips, cracks, repairs or pronounced wear. The only wear is the slight bit to the gold trim on the top rim, extremely minor, and a bit of wear to the paint on the underside, again, negligible.
This is a very impressive piece, both due to its form and size - beautiful winged figure handles!
