This is a vintage 1940s era dress made of orangey brown coloured rayon crepe. The dress has padded shoulders with cap sleeves and is made with a peplum covering the upper skirt of the dress. It is beaded with bronze brown bugle beads in two “swaths”, one at the upper right and one at the left waist. It closes with a short metal zipper at the upper back. There is a hook and eye, used to cinch the peplum at the side waist. The dress has a below the knee length and is unlined.
Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a large size. Please note the following measurements, taking the style of the dress into account:
Shoulders: 16” across from the end of one shoulder pad to the end of the other shoulder pad - 29” across, including the sleeves
Bust: 42” around, taken under the arms - should fit loosely due to cut of the sleeves
Waist: 37” around
Overall length: 47”
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, stains or odours. The only issue is that the right shoulder pad is secured with a safety pin on one side as it became detached - this just needs a stitch. I haven’t done this just in case some adjustment of position is preferable for you. There is also an eye on the back left side of the dress above the waistline, I believe there may have been a hook attached to the peplum which is no longer there, really not sure but am mentioning this as it is there. This dress appears to have been well cared for over the last many years. It has not been dry cleaned but is in wearable condition.
This is a gorgeous dress - these 40s dresses are becoming impossible to find, especially in a larger size!
