This is a superb 1920s era woman’s red and navy blue woven straw cloche hat with stitched cloth brim. The straw is beautifully worked - please view the close-up photos. The interior is lined in a pale gold silk and the top of the lining reads “SM Co Kernwood”. The front of the hat is decorated with a pin that has two toned discs at either end that I believe are red and yellow bakelite.
The opening of the hat measures 21 1/2” around and the hat has a depth of 5 1/4” - the hat should be pulled down on the head, so you have to account for having to pull it down. Please measure your head to ensure fit and take all of the above into consideration - it is quite small. The hat is in very good condition - there are some pinhead sized wear spots/holes to the lining, mostly above the brim area, but the upper lining and the straw are in great shape. The brim of the hat has faded overall when upturned it was originally more light red in tone, you can see the coloring when you turn down the brim.
This is a fabulous 1920s straw cloche….exceptional straw work….great addition to a collection and sure to be noticed!
