This is a gorgeous old hand sequined bird appliqué that came from the remaining inventory of the workshop of a lady who had a trim and sequining business from the 1930s through to the 1960s. She supplied many of the dressmakers and couturiers located in Canada and the US. I estimate that this piece most likely dates to the 1930s or 40s due to its style and the type of sequins used. It is hand applied onto a buckram type mesh backing - it is quite impressive how much work went into this. It measures 7” across its wings and 5” in length along its body (note scale as posed on dress). Striking teal blue and black colour combination on this piece - superior brilliance as these, I believe, are the old gelatin type sequins. Wonderful piece to incorporate into a creation of your own!
