This is a lovely fringed silk shawl featuring two embroidered birds amidst flora, one in each corner. The silk is of very nice quality in a cream beige color. The piece measures 36” square, exclusive of the hand knotted fringe, which measures 10 1/2” in length - total size would be 57” square including fringe. It is in very good condition with the exception of one small stain in the centre, a 1/8” hole and a tiny mark, all in the same area at the center of the shawl (see last close-up photo). These shawls are called Canton shawls or Manila shawls - they were typically made in China and brought to Spain by traders who originated from Manila.
Age: most likely 1920s
This is a lovely quality shawl featuring very pretty embroidery - sure to be noticed!
