This is a striking blue velvet evening gown dating to the 1940s. This vintage evening gown features a draped bodice and long skirt that is cut in a wide flare to the bottom and falls in drapes. It is sleeveless with two shoulder straps. There is a “stay” at either side of the bodice. It has a long metal zipper down the back and is fully lined in a copper toned rayon taffeta. Note that the bodice is draped differently from right to left, but this appears to be original - I have another Blanes gown that is constructed in the same manner.
Label: For you by Blanes. Blanes was a London company that made evening and day dresses from the 1940s through to the 1960s.
Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a small to smaller medium size with a small bust - please note the following measurements for fit:
Hips: 46 " meant to fall loosely
Hemline: 160” around
Length: 60” from the top of the shoulder straps to the hemline
Condition: This dress is in good condition - There is a repair at the bottom of the dress a few inches up from the back of the hemline and also two other small holes where a heel must have caught the bottom gown. There are also some highlight “markings” to the velvet that may come out with a proper dry cleaning - make sure that your cleaner knows how to treat older gowns like this.
This is a lovely vintage evening gown featuring beautiful quality velvet in a striking blue color - sure to be noticed!
