This is a wonderful 1950s day dress that was part of a large lot of new old store stock that I acquired some 10 years ago - there are no tags, but this definitely was not used. I’ve had this one in storage ever since, but now it’s time for someone to enjoy this interesting dress that features an embossed lace print. The dress is made of cotton. It is entirely open at the front and wraps to the left and ties with a grey cloth sash belt that is inserted through a series of slots cut into the waistline. There is an inside tie that also secures the dress closed, but those are the only methods of closure. The dress has a pocket built into the right side and has cap sleeves that are turned in a cuff. It has a shawl collar with a large pointy triangular piece at the back. The fabric is embossed with a grey and white floral lace pattern. The dress is unlined. It was posed with a crinoline, but no crinoline is provided - the use of a crinoline, however, is optional.
Label: Cardboard size label that reads “Size 14 Guaranteed Fast Color”
Color: Grey and white
Sizing: Size 14 is indicated, so this should fit a large size, but being a vintage sizing, please rely on the following measurements for fit, keeping the style of the garment in mind (please measure your body or a similar garment that you might own for comparison):
Shoulders: 15” across the top, from seam to seam, excluding the cap sleeves
Sleeves: 6 3/4” from seam
Bust: 39” around, taken under the arms, should fit loosely due to cut
Waist: 31” around, adjustable to a smaller size by cinching the belt
Hips: 42 around, but meant either to flare out or to fall loosely
Overall length: 46", measured flat from the top to the hemline
Condition: Being old store stock, it is in crisp condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors. This dress was well stored over the years.
This is a wonderful example of 50s fashion.....perfect dress to re-create the era....great summer dress!
