This is a beautiful quality late 60s or early 70s period long dress designed by legendary New York designer Mollie Parnis. Mollie Parnis (1905-1992) began her career in the fashion industry in 1923. She established her own dress business in 1933 with her husband and grew it into a multi-million dollar company. She is best known for having designed dresses for the First Ladies, including Mamie Eisenhower, Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon, Betty Ford and Rosalyn Carter.
The dress has a black silk jersey bodice and paisley printed silk chiffon skirt in tones of red, black, white and ochre. The skirt has a coral red crepe underskirt. The bodice has a peek-a-boo neckline that does up with a single button at the top. The waist is cinched with a red and black velvet ribbon. The skirt wraps around to the left and has a decorative ruffle along its edge (see photo of ruffle extended).
