From the 60s here is a lovely vintage hat and bib collar set, beautifully made with off white Mongolian lamb fur. The set was made by quality milliner Mr John Fredericks. I believe that the set dates to around 1965 and takes its inspiration from the movie Dr Zhivago, which was released that year. Dr Zhivago had a large influence on fashion with designers taking inspiration from the Russian designs in the movie. The hat measures 11" by 5 1/2" flat - the opening measures 21" around the inside band - the hat should fit a small to medium sized head. The bib measures 15" by 8 1/2" and would fit a neck with a 13" or less circumference. Both pieces are in very good condition.
Label: Mr John Fredericks. Mr John was John Harberger and Fredericks was Frederick Hirst. They formed a partnership in 1929, and created many hats for the movies, notably for Gone With The Wind. In 1948, they dissolved their partnership with Hirst keeping the original name of Mr John Fredericks and Harberger starting the "Mr John" label. (info courtesy of the Vintage Fashion Guild).
This is a lovely quality hat and bib, beautifully constructed, sure to keep you warm and gorgeous this winter and for many winters to come
