From the 1980s here's a Carolina Herrera evening dress. This dress features many of Herrera's trademark design features, including square padded shoulders and accented waist. The bodice of the dress is made of black velvet and the skirt is made of a woven silk featuring a circle pattern. The silk is constructed with an overlay that opens at the front. There is a matching belt that features a large bow. I believe that it should be positioned so that the bow is at the side, however, I've also posed the belt with the bow at the back. The end of each sleeve has a zipper closure and the dress closes at the back with a zipper.
A little information about the designer. She was born in 1939 into affluence, a descendant of a Venezuelan family with roots dating to the 1500s in Venezuela. Admired for her sense of style, and a member of the jet set during the late 60s and 70s, Herrera began to design clothing in 1981. Herrera designed clothing for women like her - wealthy and sophisticated. Her designs were quickly appreciated by socialites - Estee Lauder and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis were early clients and she designed Caroline Kennedy's wedding dress in 1986, which was enthusiastically reviewed.
