These substantial candlesticks, nicknamed "Floriform" for their stylized flower bud motif, shape #735 circa 1926, are glazed in Cowan's Special Ivory glaze, and feature a wonderful blending of classic design elements and modern proportions.
These lovely Cowan Candlesticks are in excellent condition, with one candlestick having two fleabite-sized chips to the outside base edge that are virtually undetectable when upright, as well as some unevenness which causes slight rocking - easily remedied with pads if desired -otherwise free from chipping, cracking or restoration.
Marked at the base with die-impressed Cowan logo.
Each H 4", W 3.5", L 4.75".
Originally formed as the Cleveland Pottery and Tile Company by designer, potter and teacher R. Guy Cowan, the Cowan Pottery Studio, which operated from 1913 to 1931, produced outstanding and technically extraordinary pieces, which brought international recognition to American Art Pottery. The expertise of the talented artists and chemists in residence allowed them to create distinctly modern forms and glazes during its short-lived existence that have never been reproduced.
