I'm sure this scene is an allegory of some type ... or part of a story. It shows a family, who while having lunch under a tree, are interrupted by a wanderer who tells them something apparently very upsetting. What does it mean? I really don't know. I do know, however, that this very charming and colorful hand painted miniature plaque dates to 18th century France, and is framed (held in with tape on the back) in its original lemon gilt wood frame. It has a very sturdy new hanging ring. Plaque measures 5 1/2" X 4 1/4". Overall frame size: 6 1/2" X 5 1/4".
