This wonderful little watercolor on very old paper (vellum) depicts a biblical figure reading a large tome, with a winged angel looking on. The painting is done with very old natural colors. The paper has several small worm holes, and the paint has worn off in some small areas. But luckily, the painting has never been exposed to air ... the back has never been tampered with and it is in its original very old gilded brass frame and slightly convex glass. The frame is reminiscent of reliquary frames. The work on the rim of the frame is fantastic. And the wire top is typical of early 18th century metal work. The miniature measures 3" X 2 1/4". The frame measures about 4" X 2 3/4".
