This 14’’ tall antique French Bebe was possibly made by the Falck et Roussel firm around 1885th. My research didn’t end up on this conclusion; I also found out that some of Jumeau dolls were marked with letter ”F” ( see The Encyclopedia of French Dolls Volume I by Francois & Danielle Theimer, page 209).
This doll has a very beautiful face with a deep blue stationary paperweight eyes and very interesting painted eyebrows that look very similar to the Bru Jne R dolls. The head attached to the body by metal spring, which is very typical to Jumeau dolls. The doll’s head marked “F.4” on the back. It is free on repair or damage. The tip of her nose is slightly lighter than the rest of the face; she also has a tiny cheap on her earlobe around one of the earring holes. there is a tiny pimple on her nose from the making process. See my pictures please. The doll’s wig is antique and maybe original to the doll.
She is on a labeled Gesland body with composition shoulder plate, arms and legs. The middle finger on her right hand is re-glued. The hands are jointed. The body is in very nice and clean condition. The Gesland type of bodies were made of the wire covered with a soft fabric with either bisque or composition like ours arms and hands attached to it.
The doll wears an antique French cotton dress with printed blue flowers and a wide brim wired cotton hat trimmed with a tiny lace. I don’t think that the hat is antique but old and looks very good on the doll; her pantaloons maybe original to our Ms. Cutie Pie; brown leather shoes and knitted socks are antique.
She is a very rare and unusual French Bebe that can be a star of any doll collection.
Thank you for looking.
