Great book titled History of the Negro Soldiers Spanish American War that was printed in 1899 by Edward A. Johnson. The Book has a hardback with a tape/sewn binding and measures about 8 1/2” x 5 5/8” inches and is complete with all 147 pages. A very interesting History Book about U.S. Army Negro Soldiers fighting in the Spanish American War. Teddy Roosevelt talks about the Negro Soldiers fighting on San Juan Hill . Rare Book with some very nice photographs and documented U.S. History about the Negro Soldier’s fighting in the Spanish American War.
It is in good condition for its 100+ years age. All pages are intact. This book was in someone's personal library due to the stamp on the the first blank page. The last page has the personal library stamp on it also. All the pages are still affixed to spine of book but are browning due to age. The front and back cover of book has come away from binding but the black binding on the outside of book has kept the covers from not being attached to book.
The front cover has a blue and red illustration of the Charge on San Juan Hill. Under the photo caption is "Raleigh, N.C., Price $1.00, Agents Wanted." The author Edward A. Johnson, is also the author of "The Famous School History of the Negro Race." The title page says: "History of Negro Soldiers in the Spanish-American War and Other Items of Interest." On the back cover is a photo of General Antonio Maceo. There is a List of Illustrations (Pres. William McKinley, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Gen. Fitzhugh Lee, Col Theodore Roosevelt etc.). There is an Appendix: a three-page history of "The Twenty-Fourth United States Infantry" by E.D. Gibson, with a photo. A great book for any collection.
