This box is specific to the era of Charles X (towards 1815..the Georgian period in England). The delicate details are all fixed under glass which gives a floating effect to the sandwiched design.

This little box once held dainty candies called dragees. It's form is of hard cardboard, hand shaped into a circular box. The outer edges are covered with textured Dresden paper border, once colored, now only traces of orange and green adorns the raised shapes. The Top edge has a Dresden paper border which seals the glass into place. The two wafers of glass sandwich a delicate design of scrolling metal braid, tiny opaline beads and hand painted white vergules. The center medallion is a hand painted enamel wafer depicting a tranquil countryside scene. The small chateau sits next to a pretty lake with purple mountains in the distance.

The interior bottom is lined with brick colored textured paper, the exterior bottom with creme colored paper. The box measures: 2 1/4" in diameter, 7/8" high. The enamel medalion is 3/4" in diameter. It is in very good for the delicate nature of the box and it's extreme age. The patina to the Dresden paper has darkened. The interior design is intact and the colors of the enamel wafer are still brilliant. The box is sound and there are no cracks or chips to the glass.

The little medallion has a such a romantic ambience. This type of box, produced for such a small period, is a true small bijou.
