The exquisite detailing in this miniature frame (1 3/4" x 1 1/8") depicts two beautifully gilded winged cherubs crowning beautiful fluted columns. The frame originates from just outside of Marseille France and dates towards 1880.
This little frame has fine detailing in every surface. There are two silverplate columns which support a silver arch. The columns are deeply fluted with "X" bands across the face. The bottom of the columns are large and pronounced. A gilded cartouche rests between; the cartouche was intended to have initials engraved across the face. Across the top arch the two gilded cherubs rest, one cherub lovingly kisses the other on the cheek. A swag of gilded flowers drapes below them.
There is an easel stand back. There is a glass panel for protecting the photo beneath. The fabric that rests beneath the glass (this has been added later) is a pressed creme color pattern of flowers and leaves. The frame is in marvelous antique condition.
These tiny and very detailed frames are impossible to find in today's market. This is a spectacular example with brilliant patina and design.
