This is is a most charming, English Victorian sterling silver, pin dish which bears full English hallmarks for the year 1898.
The pin dish is in the shape of a clover. It measures 2¾" (7cms) each way. It weighs 17.7 grams.
It has a pretty crimped edge and in the hallmarks are at the base.– the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver and the date letter `y' for 1898. Also present is the maker's mark 'J.Z'. The back is plain.
There are some light surface scratches on the front which is to be expected of a piece of this age. On the back are some small areas of tarnish in the grooves but they could be removed with perseverance. Apart from that this lovely piece is in fine antique condition and will arrive in a gift box.
