This most adorable, Victorian, bow watch pin bears full English hall marks for the year 1896.
It measures 1¼” (3cms) across and 1 and 3/8” (3.3cms) vertically, including the clip. It weighs 5.6 grams.
The very dimensional pin is delicately engraved with floral and foliate motifs, In the centre is a roundel with a finely engraved swallow, the bringer of happiness.
At the base is a ring from which hangs a dog nose clip. Traditionally this would have been meant to hold a tiny watch .
The back is smoothly finished with an old style c clip and pin. The hallmarks are very clear. On one side is the maker’s mark ‘WCM’ for William Clark Manton. On the other side is the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter ‘w’ for 1896 and finally the anchor for the Birmingham assay office.
This exquisite pin, in fine antique condition, would make a lovely gift. It will arrive in a gift box.
