This charming, tennis lady pendant is made of gold washed sterling silver with enamel. The maker’s mark is unclear but the nearest I could find is the esteemed, Norwegian silversmith, Bernard Meldahl . (1873-1950). The workmanship is of the highest standard so it is quite likely that it is his. I believe that it is an Art Deco piece.
The oval pendant measures 13/4” (4.3cms) long, including the top ring, and is 1” (2.5cms) wide. It weighs 7.3 grams.
The gently curved front is enamelled in pale blue. The lines beneath the enamel create a shimmering effect. Our tennis lady looks as if she is resting, with hands beneath he head. She looks rather triumphant as if she has won the game! Her jacket is black and her skirt is pink. Her elegant legs have a tennis racket between them. Her dainty feet have tennis shoes. The edge is finished with slim diamond shapes of black enamel.
The back is smoothly finished with the bloomed gold of older pieces . It is marked '925S' with the mark referred to above.
In excellent vintage condition with no enamel loss, this exquisite and very rare pendant will arrive in a gift box.
