Here is an exquisite pair of Art Nouveau, cufflinks from France. They are marked ‘Fix’, a mark founded in 1823 with a secret formula for this type of 18 carat gold filled jewellery.
The French are very familiar with the concept of elegant gold filled jewellery so thick that there are never signs of wear. The designs and quality are generally so good that they are hard to tell from their solid gold counterparts. These cufflinks are particularly well filled to the extent that they test as 18 carat gold.
The cufflink fronts each measure ½” (1.4cms) across. They are attached to a moveable, gold oval shaped back by means of a firm stalk. These are both marked ‘FIX’.
The raised images on the fronts are most exquisitely embellished with a single raised flower and sinuous leaves. The backs carry a similar design but elongated with a flower and a bud.
These wonderful cufflinks, suitable for a man or a woman, are in fine antique condition. The gold really glows as it would have done the day they were made.
They will arrive in a gift box.
