This beautiful, Art Nouveau case and pencil bears French boar’s head hallmarks for 800-900 silver quality. It can be worn as a pendant as it has a bail.
It measures 3 ½” (9cms) long, including the small top ring, and 3/8” (1cm) wide. It weighs 8.6 grams.
The case carries a lovely repoussé design of holly, a favourite Art Nouveau motif, on both sides. The top has fine line detail. On the other end is a ring and a bail.
You pull on the top to reveal the pencil 3” (7.7cms) long. It has been used and sharpened but is perfectly useable. It is marked ‘C M’. I just wonder whether these initials stand for Charles Murat who may have been the maker.
There are tiny hallmarks under the top rim of the case, on the interior of the cap and on the bail.
In fine antique condition, this delightful piece will arrive in a gift box.
