Here is an exquisite pair of cufflinks from France. They are marked ‘Fix’, a mark founded in 1823 with a secret formula for this type of 18 carat gold filled jewellery. I am dating them to circa 1910.
The French are very familiar with the concept of thickly 18 carat gold filled jewellery. The designs and quality are generally so good that they are hard to tell from their solid gold counterparts.
The cufflink fronts each measure ½” (1.8cms) across. They are attached to a solid stem with oval backs. They are hinged at the back for ease of insertion. They are marked ‘FIX’ on the stems and there is also the maker’s mark which is Savard of Paris, the creator of Fix.
The pierced fronts and backs have a pierced design of liners and delicate flowers They are exquisite!
These wonderful cufflinks, suitable for a man or a woman, are in fine antique condition. They will arrive in a gift box.
