Here is a stunning, gold filled necklace with pearls. It is marked ‘Fix’, a company founded in 1823 with a secret formula for this type of 18 carat gold filled jewellery. I am dating it to circa 1910-1920.
The French are very familiar with the concept of elegant gold filled jewellery so thick that there are never signs of wear. The designs and quality are generally so good that they are hard to tell from their solid gold counterparts.
In 1912, the European pearl industry asked Paris and London courts to forbid the sale of the Japanese cultured pearl as "real pearls". They claimed the cultured pearls to be of inferior quality. But scientists in France and England proved that a Cultured pearl and Natural pearl were identical in composition and quality. So I have concluded that if my dating is correct, and I believe it is, these are natural pearls. Only and x-ray can tell the difference.
The necklace measures 20.5” (51.5cms) long. The elongated links are 13mms wide and the pearls are 5mms across. It closes with a ring clasp and the joining link is marked ‘FIX’.
The links are really pretty – pierced diamond shapes with rounded corners and delicate decoration. These are joined by trios of small oval links.
The necklace closes with a ring clasp and the joining ring is marked ‘FIX’.
Lustrous pearls run the length of the necklace, Between them are two shiny , box style, elongated links joined by runs of tiny links.
This beautiful necklace can easily be mistaken for solid gold and it is in great, as if unworn, condition too!
It will arrive in a gift box
