This stunning , Victorian brooch/ pin is unmarked but tests as sterling silver. It carries a magnificent citrine gemstone. I believe that this brooch was made in Scotland and might well have been used for pinning a plaid or shawl.
It measures 1 and ¾” (4.5cms) by 1” (2.5cms). It is 7/16” (1cm) tall. It weighs a substantial 9.5 grams.
Set high on the brooch is a magnificent oval, faceted citrine which is open backed for maximum reflection. It measures 20mms by 15mms. My photos cannot do justice to the beauty of this stone.
The citrine is set in a pierced, silver setting - clearly hand wrought and embellished on each side with curlicues and silver balls.
On the reverse is a solid , old style c clasp and pin.
In excellent , antique condition, this lovely piece would be perfect to hold a wrap or to waer on a coat. It will arrive in a gift box.
