This most delightful, French pin was made by the company, Bressans, in the eastern French city of Bourg en Bresse. Bressans has been making beautiful enamel jewellery since 1850. They work with French 800-900 silver and 18 carat gold. The designs are hand crafted to a unique method .
This silver, enamel and pastes pin dates to the late nineteenth century. It bears several obscure hallmarks but it has tested positively to 800—900 silver quality. It has a gold wash on the front
It measures 1 and 3/8” (3.5cms) across and weighs 9 grams.
This delicately enamelled and jewelled pin has maximum impact for its size. It has the most exquisitely enamelled roundels – a large one in the centre surrounded by a circle of smaller ones. They are all raised up on a pierced background. The central roundel is turquoise blue with a white enamel star centre. At its heart is a twinkling ruby paste surrounded by tiny ‘jewels’ of translucent, red enamel. There is an attractive gold decoration. The smaller roundels in their scalloped settings are enamelled in black with ruby pastes and white enamel stars. The pin is finished with engraved curlicues which catch the light and tiny balls.
The back is smoothly finished. There is an old style c clip which bears obscure hallmarks mentioned above. There is a further hallmark on the pin itself.
This delightful and very rare pin is in excellent antique condition with no enamel loss. It will arrive carefully presented in a gift box.
