This delightful, sterling silver and glass pill or rouge pot dates to 1900. It bears the maker’s mark for the silversmith, James Deakin & Son.

The round box measures 1 and 5/16” (3.4cms) across and is 1 and 1/16” (2.7cms) tall. It weighs 20 grams.

The silver lid has a lovely repoussé image of a young lady sitting on a balustrade by a pond. If you look closely you will see that she is carrying a receptacle and there is a fish in the water. Around her is foliage and the swirls of Art Nouveau style. Also present is the three sheaves of wheat for the Chester assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver and the date letter ‘R’ for the year 1900. To the left of this is the maker’s mark in a shield shape.

The interior of the silver lid is beautifully gilded.

The class base is in good condition with only a couple of the minutest flea bites and a couple of fine scratches on the base. The silver lid is in excellent condition. It will arrive carefully protected in a gift box.
