This Victorian guard chain is in gilt metal with natural coral beads.
In Victorian and Edwardian times a guard chain was used to carry a muff, lorgnette or watch. Today it makes a fabulous double necklace to which you could add an antique locket or pendant if desired.
It measures 58” (150cms) long. The chain is 1mm wide and the coral beads are irregular as you would expect. They range from 2- 4mms.
The coral beads are a lovely salmon colour and some have tiny natural marks. Each side has a pretty, fluted gilt cap.
At one end is a large ring clasp which could be used to secure the chain as a double necklace of opera length.
This most beautiful guard chain with its striking contrast of gilt and coral is in fine antique condition It will arrive in a gift box.
