This exquisite , French Art Nouveau, chatelaine box pendant is marked for 800-900 silver quality. I believe it might have originally been a compact with a mirror in the lid. I am dating it to circa 1900.
It measures 1 3/4” (4.3cms) each way. It weighs 12.9 grams.
On the top is a really lovely, repoussé image of a carnation, a favourite Art Nouveau flower. All around it are delicate swirls.. The side is plain silver. The reverse has a gorgeous , foliate, swirling design.
At the top is a small ring and a bail. – just perfect for use as a pendant.
The box opens easily from the front. Inside there are traces of original gilding. On the edge of the top lid is a pair of boar’s heads denoting 800-900 silver . There is also a maker’s mark ,
This charming box pendant has a tin , hardly noticeable shallow ding on one edge. It would not be noticeable in wear. Otherwise it is in fine antique condition and will arrive carefully presented in a gift box.
