This absolutely charming, heart shaped French pendant is a representation of the famous ‘Amoureux de Peynet’ – ‘Peynet’s lovers’. It dates to the 1950’s or early 1960’s. It is accompanied by a pretty gold filled chain to create a lovely necklace.
The chain measures 15” (38cms) long and closes with aring clasp. It has attractive elongated links.
Raymond Peynet 1908-1999 was an artist who started out designing publicity for labels and boxes. Later he did drawings for newspapers but it was in 1942 that he started drawing the little people as found on this pendant. Since then his drawings have had worldwide success and there are even museums , including one in Japan, devoted to his art.
The pendant is 18 carat gold filled and is signed ‘Murat’ mark on the ring at the top.
The pendant measures 7/8” (2.2cms) across the widest part.
The pendant is a heart with a wonderful sculpted image of the two very cute young lovers. He has a round hat and a collar and tie with straight hair. She has a pony tail. He is lovingly offering her a dove but she looks very bashful.
The back is inscribed at the top ‘Les amoureux de Peynet’ within a piece of music with a little bird. The base is inscribed ‘Gravé par Contaux’. This refers to the famous French engraver Georges Contaux who created Peynet’s lovers in pendant form.
This delightful pendant necklace, in excellent vintage condition, comes to you tissue wrapped in a gift box.
