This exquisite medal or charm is French, 18 carat gold filled. It was designed by the artist, Tricard, which dates it to circa 1910-1920.The works of Louis Tricard have become increasingly collectable. The subject is Saint Anne with her Daughter Mary as a girl. I was lucky to acquire a number of medals by Tricard and was told that they are ‘new’ old stock.

This small medal measures 15mms across and weighs 1.6 grams.

On the front is a beautifully sculpted image of a seated St Anne with Mary kneeling before her. St Anne appears to be teaching an attentive Mary from a scroll. On the right of Mary is a vase of lilies. At the feet of Mary is the signature ‘L Tricard’. The detailing is amazing for a piece so small.

Around the edge is an inscription. It refers to Mary’s heritage as a flower of Jesse.

At the top is a ring and a bail.

The reverse has a pretty, garland of roses and a blank space in the centre for a monogram. There is also a maker’s mark.

In excellent antique condition, this wonderful piece would make an excellent addition to a collection. It will arrive in a gift box.
