This very pretty, silver enamel locket is marked for ‘800’ silver. I believe it to be German from the Jugendstil period. This style was half way between Art Nouveau and Art Deco. So I reckon this one dates to circa 1920.
It measures 1” (2.5cms) across and weighs 8.6 grams.
The front is beautifully enamelled in shimmering white. There are fine lines radiating from the centre beneath the enamel. There is an exquisite decoration of gold , leafy garland. They are punctuated by tiny, jewelled dots in green with a triangle of red. The general effect is very charming, The back is plain silver,
At the top is a notch which allows the locket to be opened. The interior is empty but the rims will facilitate the insertion of photographs. The locket closes with a snap.
At the top is a ring and a bail marked ‘800’.
In excellent vintage condition, this is a piece which is sure to please. It will arrive in a gift box.
